DB1 & DB2 had their Summer Intensives auditions today. I hate those things. They’re fine, but I’m all stressed out. Something inevitably goes wrong, like last year when DB1 left his shoes at home. This year, as I’m paying the fee, he comes out of the dressing room to tell me he’s left his tights at home. OK, they can forgive shoes, I’m sure, but tights?!?!? I don’t think so. So the ladies at the desk suggested I look for some in the lost-and-found and, surprisingly, there was a pair of black tights there. Of course, then he looked again (after he had already said he’d looked twice and dumped everything out of his bag) and he found them. I was good, though, I didn’t string him up by the tights I’d found in the lost-and-found.
DBD had to bring DB3 & DB4 later ‘cuz DB3 is too young for SI but he did have a rehearsal right after, along with DB1. So they arrived just as DB1 & 2 were getting out of their audition. I questioned DB1 about DB2’s audition, and he was fairly certain that DB2 had done everything wrong. This surprised me ‘cuz when I quizzed him at home he seemed to do fine. Not perfect, Premiere Danseur quality fine, but good enough to look like he’d been dancing for three years (but I think I put the wrong # of years down on his registration card now that I’m thinking of it.–sigh–did I mention this stuff stresses me out? lol) So now I’m stressed about that wondering if we should put him in at all this summer or wait another year.
Finally, everyone gets into their recital rehearsal and DB2 settles down to play a video game. As I’m talking to the other mom’s I slowly begin to realize they all have the same paper. I’m wondering what it is. Did I forget to pick something up at the desk? So I ask and they tell me their daughter’s handed it to them when they came out of the audition. OK, trying not to panic again. When DB1 comes out of rehearsals I ask him where his paper is and where DB2’s paper is. He says they didn’t give them one. So I send him to get one. As I’m in the hall talking to another mom while waiting for him the Director (who did the auditions) comes out talking to another mom and I hear that the papers are their “acceptance letters” or something to that effect. OK, so, of course, I’m already concerned whether or not DB2 is ready for SI, now I’m wondering why neither of my kids got acceptance letters. I can think of plenty of reasons (I usually can). So I follow after her to see if there was some problem but she was needing to get to her rehearsal so I’m trying to figure out exactly what to do to find out when DB1 finally comes back to me with the papers, one for each boy.
I walk back to the waiting room to get my stuff so we can leave and am relaying parts of this to the other mom’s there. That’s when I find out that we were supposed to go into the classroom after the audition and they passed out the letters there and gave some information. I asked them how they knew that. Oh, their kids came and got them. Yeah, great. DB1’s reasoning for not telling me…he thought I knew. Ah, the break-down of communication. Not the reason for the start of every war, but I’m sure a whole lot of ‘em. hehehe.
Oh, and did I mention that DB3 started Soccer this morning?
Did I make that sound chaotic enough? If not, I could tell you that DB2 had outgrown his shoes, apparently last night so after Soccer I had to take him to get new tennies, then to the dance store for new ballet shoes so he could have some that fit for his audition. Then a quick lunch at Cj’s (blech) before running off to ballet.
There, I think that pretty much describes my life. hehehe.

Yes, as boring as that was, that was it, my last blog post here. Since the beginning of January my time on the computer has been limited to snatches of ten minute increments here and there. Plenty of time to blog something, I’m sure, but I feel guilty blogging when I have no time to read other’s blogs. I figure if I expect people to read what I’m writing, then I owe them the same courtesy.
I had a whole long post here but thought better of it (see how I’m getting?) and thought I’d just give you an update on the kids.
DB1 has been doing better in school. We’ve “isolated” his learning problem and it seems to be reading comprehension so we are working on that now. We’ve also been discussing sending him up the mountain for Junior High School so he can decide if he wants to go to “real” High School or stay virtual. Of course, if he wants to go to OC Arts, it’s a moot point but will at least prepare him to get up early in the morning for school.
DB2 is beyond a junior geek. We have looked for a computer camp for him but there is no such thing as a programming camp for 6yo. lol. He’s not too keen on his teeth brushing regimen but we try to remind him of the alternative. He now will be going to the dentist every six months. Don’t know how they plan on cleaning his teeth. Should be interesting. If you hear anything in the news in late August about a 6yo killing a dentist, you can suspect it’s him.
DB3 became a mommy at Easter. He’s wanted a doll forever (OK, just since DB4 was born) so we bought him one for Easter. I think boys play differently with dolls than girls. Boys are fascinated with the Linda Blair head rotation the dolls can do. They also don’t seem keen on dressing them. Of course, they aren’t too keen on dressing themselves so it stands to reason I suppose. He did name the baby, though. Jacob. Of course, you knew it had to be a boy. My kids have no idea where girls come from but they are fairly certain no baby is a girl.
DB4 is nearly one year and is in to everything. He’s a combination of all the kids. He likes to put everything in his mouth like DB1. He likes to get into everything like DB2. He’s jealous of me holding anyone but him like DB3. He’ll be making his first flight next month to visit my grandmother. Oh, yeah, it’s after I purchase the tickets that go through Atlanta that I find out that a stop-over in Denver is great with the kids ‘cuz it breaks up the trip perfectly.
As for me, DB1 bought us the last HP book. He couldn’t stand to wait until his cheap mother would buy it in paperback on clearance (the paperback doesn’t even come out until July). I read it in slightly more than 24 hrs, but only because I was ridiculous and slept at night. Seriously, what was I thinking? Next thing you know, I’ll become responsible and do weird things like think before I act and speak.
Anyway, the blog will remain here until Worpress threatens to remove it, then I’ll copy everything and save it on my computer. I’m too busy to do that right now. Because it has helped me to stay focussed on my goal of learning how to cook GF this year, I will maintain the GF blog I started at the beginning of the year. But even that will probably only be my weekly menu and a very occasional review or recipe.
It’s sort of weird to end it. It makes me think of all the things I wanted to say but never did and now, obviously, never will. But then I realize that I am sitting here typing this out and missing the momentous occasion of the Dodgers and Red Sox playing each other at The Colosium and realize, blogging really isn’t worth missing the important stuff for.
Go Red Sox!!!!
Sorry to see you go.
Thanks for the update. It’s great to hear your sons growing as ballet dancers. I’m sorry to see you go but you gotta do what you gotta do!
Well, golllleeee. Sorry–all my “regulars” find other things to do. But I do know you are a busy lady. Sorry about your loss–your grandfather. My grandmother died in 1983–still miss talking to her.
